Father left quadraplegic after botched routine operation

04 September 2009

A father-of-four was left a wheel-chair bound quadraplegic after a hospital botched a routine neck operation.

Michael Hart, 37, went in to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford to have a compressed disc removed from the top of his spine in September last year.

However, surgeons inserted a replacement which was too small and it later slipped out of place causing irreparable damage to his spinal column.

Muiris Lyons, Head of Clinical Negligence Department at Stewarts Law, who represented Mr Hart, said he would be in line for a seven-figure payout.
