MP asks Prime Minister about Turkish Fire Shows

18 April 2007

The continued risk to tourists of fire shows in Turkey was today brought to the attention of the House of Commons in Prime Minister's Question Time by the Ilford North Member of Parliament Lee Scott. He asked Mr Blair to join him in supporting the Galvani-Skeete family in their fight for justice following the tragic death of their daughter, Eden.

Eden Galvani-Skeete, aged 6, died as a result of horrific burns sustained when a fire show in a Turkish resort exploded.

Mr Blair expressed the condolences of the whole house to the family and explained that an official from the British embassy in Turkey is following the case and is liaising with the family.

Sarah Stewart, a Partner at Stewarts Law, is representing the three families involved in the same fire show tragedy. She said:

"We are currently assisting and supporting the families in their efforts to bring about a criminal prosecution in Turkey.

The families are concerned not only with the actions of the individuals that were the immediate cause of the tragedy but they are also concerned with the systems of management at the resort and the wider Health and Safety implications for tourists travelling overseas.

We will be assisting the families with civil claims for damages in due course following the tragic death of Eden and the burns and psychological trauma our clients suffered"
