Stewarts Law at the London Triathlon
08 August 2007
On Saturday 4 August 2007, a rare hot and sunny summer day, Stewarts Law had 2 teams swimming, cycling and running their way around Docklands in The London Triathlon. Julian Chamberlayne, Andy Lindesay and Ravi Bansal were the Stewarts Law - Dan's Fund for Burns Team. Ravi faced the combined challenged of swimming in St Katherine's Dock and trying to avoid 420 other pairs of legs and arms. Julian Chamberlayne was untroubled by the 40 km cycle, having cycled 24,000 kms from Alaska to Chile back in 1999. He completed the course in just under 1 hour 7 minutes at an average speed of just over 36 kms per hour.
Stewarts Law client, Andy Lindesay, a double amputee who was running with a specialised carbon foot prosthetic limb, unquestionably received the biggest cheers of the day from the crowd. Stewarts Law - Dan's Fund for Burns completed the event in 2 hours 42 minutes, placing 153rd out of the 421 teams taking part at the full Olympic distance team relay. In the process sponsorships for Dan's Fund for Burns of over £1,500.00 have already been raised with the hope they will exceed £2,000.00 in the next few days. Our second team, Stewarts Law - SIA were not far behind at 2 hours 47 minutes and placing 188th. In fact had Stewarts Law former client Matt Plested not suffered a puncture on the first lap of the cycle course our 2 teams may have battled out a sprint finish. Even with the puncture and with only 1 leg generating power consequent to his incomplete tetraplegia, Matt Plested still completed the 40 k cycle in only just over 1 hour 31 minutes. Charles Edwards then stormed the 10 km running course in 44 minutes 35 seconds. Sponsorships raised for the Spinal Injuries Association from the Stewarts Law Team stand at over £1,100.00.
