14 October 2009
On 4 October 2009, in a case before his Honour Judge Roach, Stewarts Law, in a contested application, won an interim payment of £815,000 for its client Stephen Butterfield.
Stephen, 43 years of age, married with two young children, worked as a heavy goods driver. He was a pillion passenger on his friend's bike when he had a road traffic accident on 21 September 2008. Stephen sustained an incomplete spinal cord injury at C6. As a result of the accident, he has sensory and motor weakness in all four limbs, suffers from severe hypersensitivity and is dependant on a manual wheelchair.
The defendant opposed the application and proposed an interim payment of £100,000. Following detailed submissions the Judge ordered an interim payment of £815,000.
Andrew Dinsmore, partner at Stewarts Law, said: "The interim payment will help Stephen fund his immediate requirement for housing, care and equipment".
