Specialist litigation firm Stewarts Law LLP has capped another successful year by being named Niche Law Firm of the Year at the prestigious Yorkshire Lawyer Awards.
Daniel Herman, head of the firm's Leeds office, received the award from TV presenter Gaynor Barnes at a glittering ceremony at the city's Queen's Hotel, which was attended by more than 300 lawyers from across the region.
Daniel said the award was a fitting end to a very successful year for the firm in Yorkshire. "It has been a fantastic year for us," he said. "We have opened a new Antitrust and Commercial Litigation department, all our other departments have grown and we recently signed a deal to double our office space at Bond Court.
"What is particularly pleasing about winning this award is that it recognises the firm's core aim, which is to fill a niche in the market for handling complex, high-value disputes. We have something unique to offer - the expertise and levels of service of a specialist City of London litigation practice.
"As a conflict-free firm, our Commercial Litigation department is now filling an important niche in the region's business community, acting in cases where other full-service commercial firms are constrained by conflict, for example in acting in disputes against banks and other large financial institutions."
Stewarts Law has offices in London and Leeds, with the Leeds office currently conducting litigation in five areas: antitrust, clinical negligence, commercial litigation, divorce and personal injury.
The judging panel was impressed by the firm's expertise in handling high-value cases, with typical settlement values of over £1 million, across all of its practice areas, and its ability "to provide attentive, discreet, expert services to clients who are often exceptionally vulnerable."
The firm was also praised on the night for its clear and open professional development policies and track record for encouraging internal promotion of staff, as well as its contribution to the community, with special mention made of the firm's own Charitable Foundation which was established earlier this year.
