Muiris specialises in catastrophic spinal, brain and birth injury, and fatal claims arising out of clinical negligence. He has a wealth of experience in dealing with claims against medical professionals both within the NHS and private medicine.

Muiris has a strong interest in sports-related litigation and chairs the Stewarts sports-related litigation practice group.  This multi-disciplinary team has substantial experience in a wide range of sports-related disputes. Muiris’ relevant experience is in the area of professional negligence particularly in relation to the medical treatment of professional athletes and sports-people.

Muiris is recognised by The Legal 500 and Chambers as a “clear leader in his field”, an “inspiring leader and a meticulous lawyer”, an individual in whom peers have “absolute faith”, and one of the most “impressive and knowledgeable” practitioners in the field.

Experience

Muiris has extensive experience of all aspects of healthcare litigation and has been involved in cases in the High Court, Court of Appeal, House of Lords and the European Court of Human Rights. He has taken a lead role in a number of high-profile cases involving right to life and right to die issues as well IVF-related litigation and human rights.

Career

Muiris qualified in 1991 and joined Stewarts as a partner in 2008. He has a Master of Laws (LL.M) with distinction in Advanced Litigation from Nottingham Trent University.

Accreditations and Memberships

Muiris is a past-president of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL), and is one of only nine lawyers to be awarded their prestigious Senior Fellowship in recognition of his “outstanding contribution” campaigning for the rights of injured people.

Publications

Muiris has written extensively for the legal media. He was General Editor of the Journal of Personal Injury Law (JPIL) for 14 years. He has also contributed to Kemp & Kemp on Quantum of Damages and the leading textbook, Jones on Medical Negligence (4th edition). He has appeared widely on television, radio and in the media.   

Personal

Muiris is married with two sons and divides his time between London and Wiltshire. He is a Manchester United fan and season ticket holder. Other interests include jazz, playing the guitar (badly) and triathlon (Ironman). He is a member of Soho House.
