Stewarts Law Foundation donates £20,000 towards WaterAid's work in Sierra Leona and Liberia
14 March 2012
Stewarts Law LLP, the largest litigation only law firm in the United Kingdom, has made a generous donation of £20,000 from its foundation towards WaterAid's lifesaving water, sanitation and hygiene education work in Sierra Leone and Liberia.
The firm acts for a UK and international client base and has leading and specialist departments in antitrust litigation, aviation, clinical negligence, divorce, employment and personal injury.
The Stewarts Law Foundation, the firm's charitable arm, was established in 2010 by the partners of Stewarts Law to support a wide range of charitable causes including:
- The prevention or relief of poverty and homelessness
- The work of disability organisations
- The furtherance of the arts
- The advancement of education
- The needs of overseas humanitarian agencies
- The protection of the environment
This donation from Stewarts Law follows a generous donation of £10,000 in 2011 to WaterAid's work in Tanzania.
Following WaterAid's Annual Supporters Meeting in October 2011, where WaterAid's Regional Advocacy Manager for West Africa gave an account of our work in Sierra Leone and Liberia, the partners at Stewarts Law were compelled to support this work. After many years of civil war both countries face enormous challenges to over-come almost non-existent basic services and improve access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene.
Working with local partners the programmes will build capacity to deliver sustainable water, sanitation and hygiene services in the countries as they move from humanitarian relief to a development focus. WaterAid's work will focus on community-led total sanitation and the Local Millennium Development Goals Initiative approach and will improve the access of poor, marginalised and vulnerable people to water, sanitation and hygiene services, which are essential building blocks for other forms of development.
