The Clinical Negligence department receives praise from Chambers & Partners

02 November 2010

First published in 1990, Chambers UK has established a reputation for its in-depth research. Based on thousands of interviews with lawyers and clients, the guide ranks solicitors and barristers in over 60 specialist areas of law. The qualities on which rankings are assessed include technical legal ability, client service, commercial astuteness, diligence, commitment, and other qualities most valued by the client.

Chambers notes of the London department: "This niche practice comprises four partners, and focuses on catastrophic injury claims. With a particular emphasis on high-value claims, the "excellent" team is noted for providing a "sophisticated and complete service that is on-tap and accessible." Kevin Grealis is "both time- and user-friendly." He is an all-round personal injury and clinical negligence specialist. Muiris Lyons"really gives strategic direction on that team," sources say. He was recently elected president of APIL. The "technically savvy" Robert Dransfield "has an excellent grasp of the medicine and the law." He is particularly well regarded as a spinal injury specialist. Nick Knowles has over 30 years' experience of catastrophic brain and spinal injury claims, and impresses with his "sound judgement." Hugh Johnson is making a name for himself acting on significant spinal injury claims, and has already obtained multimillion-pound settlements for clients."

In relation to the Leeds department Chambers notes: "This Leeds-based clinical negligence team works closely with the firm's London office to advise on high-value claims. It focuses on catastrophic injury claims. The "hugely client-focused" Frank Pinch heads the team, and wins praise for his practical approach to complex, sensitive claims."
