Lisa advises clients on all aspects of their HMRC interactions. She specialises in complex tax enquiries and disclosures, including the negotiation of penalties and settlements. Lisa also advises clients on their options in relation to tax avoidance arrangements under challenge by HMRC. This includes films schemes, employee benefit trusts and bespoke arrangements.

Experience

Cases on which Lisa has acted include:

  • acting for a large corporate with an employee benefit trusts under enquiry by HMRC, where she advised on the implications of implementation issues and HMRC disclosure/settlement
  • acting for a high-profile individual with a number of tax avoidance schemes under challenge by HMRC
  • acting for another high-profile individual accused of tax fraud by HMRC.

Career

Lisa was a tax inspector in HMRC for 16 years before joining PwC and then BDO, where she was a tax director.

Lisa is a fully-trained (“FT”) HMRC Inspector of Taxes.

Publications

Lisa’s most recent article discussed how HMRC investigate businesses where there are a number of tax regimes under review (“cross tax enquiries”). Lisa has appeared in a Lexis Nexis broadcast on tax avoidance and at various events on general tax investigation issues.

Personal

Lisa is passionate about travel – particularly to Australasia – and enjoys travel-related activities, including walking. Lisa is also a film buff and while not enjoying the outdoors enjoys watching science fiction films in particular.
