Expertise

Philippa has advised clients on five continents in relation to arbitration proceedings. She has led teams in court applications and enforcement proceedings, and in mediation and other ADR formats. Her experience includes cases seated in England, France, Sweden, the United States, the UAE, and Nigeria, as well as the application of foreign laws including those of Venezuela, Brazil, China, New York and Russia.

 

Experience

Philippa’s experience includes:

  • Advising the claimant in a complex, high-value ICC arbitration proceeding seated in Dubai concerning allocation and valuation of businesses and assets in multiple jurisdictions
  • Representing the respondents (Chinese automotive manufacturers) in the defence of claims arising out of a failed joint venture valued in excess of $700m including issues of jurisdiction and governing law under LCIA Rules
  • Acting for the company in a shareholders’ dispute concerning issues of unfair prejudice, under LCIA Arbitration Rules, and advising in connected court proceedings in BVI and Cyprus
  • Acting for a State in English Court proceedings resisting recognition and enforcement of an award rendered under an intra-EU BIT.

Solicitor-Advocate of the Higher Courts of England and Wales (2002).

Career

Philippa trained and qualified into the commercial dispute resolution group of Rowe & Maw (now Mayer Brown International LLP) in 1999 and became a partner there in 2007. She joined Stewarts in February 2013.

Personal

Philippa was born and raised in Dublin, and educated in Dublin and at Oxford. She enjoys music, baking, needlework, and travel.
