New publication provides a practical jurisdiction-by-jurisdiction overview of insurance law for policyholders across 23 jurisdictions.

The Global Policyholder Alliance (GPA) has launched the inaugural Global Policyholder Guide, a practical resource to help policyholders, brokers, risk managers, and advisers navigate insurance disputes across multiple jurisdictions.

Developed by the GPA’s 14 founding member firms, the guide compares key insurance laws, coverage principles, and dispute resolution considerations across 23 jurisdictions in Europe, Asia Pacific, the Middle East, and North America.

The publication responds to a growing need for coordinated, specialist advice as insurance claims become increasingly international.

It brings together insights from specialist policyholder lawyers worldwide, highlighting how coverage and dispute resolution issues differ between jurisdictions and giving organisations a practical starting point for managing global risk and claims.

The GPA was formed in 2026 to address a longstanding market imbalance. While insurers have established international legal networks, policyholders have often lacked equivalent coordinated support. The Alliance now covers 23 jurisdictions across five continents, combining local expertise with an international perspective.

Aaron Le Marquer, Head of Policyholder Disputes at Stewarts and founder of the Global Policyholder Alliance, said:

“The Global Policyholder Guide responds to the same need that prompted us to form the Alliance. As insurance claims become increasingly global, policyholders need access to coordinated international advice and representation.

“It demonstrates the breadth of expertise across our network, comparing key insurance laws and coverage principles from the policyholder’s perspective. It is both a practical reference and a route to specialist advice.

“Our aim is simple: to give policyholders, brokers and risk managers high-quality information and direct access to local expertise wherever a dispute arises.”

The guide covers policy interpretation, disclosure and notification obligations, remedies, dispute resolution procedures, and subrogation rights. It also identifies the Alliance firms and lawyers available to support policyholders in each jurisdiction.

It is the Alliance’s first major project since launch and demonstrates the collaborative approach at the heart of the network: connecting policyholders with coordinated advice on complex, high-value, and cross-border disputes.
