Stewarts is pleased to announce that Mo Bhaskaran has been appointed as Head of the firm’s Fraud department, as David Hughes retires.

Mo joined Stewarts as a partner in 2013 and acts on fraud and commercial litigation matters. He specialises in large scale fraud and corruption investigations and recovery action (including working with enforcement authorities in the UK and overseas), as well as high-value commercial disputes relating to a range of commercial matters including fraud.

His notable cases include investigating historic corruption/fraud by a senior director within a FTSE 250 listed group; defending an HMRC investigation arising as a result and pursuing claims against the director responsible; advising on a multi-million pound extortion claim and directing a significant $1bn multi-jurisdictional investigation into systemic corruption by a foreign public official.

Mo is also Head of Commercial Litigation for the firm’s Leeds office and assumes this additional role following David Hughes’ retirement at the age of 67 after a long career advising clients across a range of sectors. David had previously worked as a partner at Dechert LLP, and before that at Berwin Leighton Paisner and DLA Piper.
