We are thrilled to announce that Stewarts has joined the legal panel for Meningitis Now. As the UK’s largest meningitis charity, Meningitis Now offers support, funds research and raises awareness around this potentially life-threatening condition.

Stewarts will be helping Meningitis Now to provide support for those affected, as well promoting mindfulness of the threat meningitis can pose. We will also help Meningitis Now to raise the funds the charity needs to deliver their vision: a future where no-one in the UK loses their life to meningitis and everyone affected gets the support they need to rebuild their lives.

Our Clinical Negligence team acts for patients who have been affected by the misdiagnosis or incorrect treatment of several different types of meningitis.

About Meningitis Now

Meningitis Now is the first meningitis patient group in the world and founders of the meningitis awareness movement. They have invested over £12.7 million in early stage research that has played a critical part in the introduction of life saving vaccines, and provided invaluable support to those impacted by meningitis through their helpline and community and peer support programmes.

The charity’s ‘Believe and Achieve’ support programme for 11-25 year olds helps young people affected by meningitis to set and achieve goals, overcome challenges and develop the confidence to believe in themselves.

Our work with meningitis patients

Prompt recognition of meningitis symptoms is vital given the severity of the disease. Any delay in treatment can have a life-changing impact on patients and may prove fatal. If a patient has meningitis they must be treated as quickly as possible to give the best chance of recovery.

Clinical negligence claims involving meningitis usually occur either because:

  • there was a delay in recognising the infection, so treatment was not delivered as quickly as it should have been, or
  • meningitis was recognised but treated incorrectly.

Our team has considerable experience acting for patients who sustained life-changing injuries as a result of meningitis including brain injuries, amputation due to the spread of septicaemia, and bilateral hearing loss. We understand the impact meningitis can have on patients and their families and our goal is to help our clients achieve the best outcome so their lifelong needs are met.
