London’s Air Ambulance recently held a reception at the Houses of Parliament to celebrate their Pride of Britain Emergency Services award win, and a former patient and Stewarts’ client was in attendance.

London’s Air Ambulance won the Emergency Services category at this year’s Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards. To celebrate their win, London’s Air Ambulance held a reception at the Houses of Parliament attended by MPs, peers and GLA members, and hosted by MP Rushanara Ali and Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson.

Also present were Stewarts’ client Paul Maher and his partner Ingrid. Paul was helped by London’s Air Ambulance after a road traffic accident in January 2015 that left him with a severe brain injury.

Frank Chege, Patient Liaison Nurse at London’s Air Ambulance said:

“It was great to have Paul and Ingrid there with us. Paul was definitely the star of the show and for me personally it was incredibly heart-warming to have him there.

It’s testament to his courage, strength, character and determination that he was able to join us especially when I recall how low a starting point he has come from. Well done Paul.”

Stephanie Clarke, Partner in the Personal Injury team who represented Paul said:

“Paul had a catastrophic brain injury and his chances of survival were poor. He has amazed all his treating team with his progress and has retained a wicked dry sense of humour.

Ingrid was hugely supported by Frank in his patient liaison role and I know she found his kindness and help invaluable in the early days after Paul’s accident.

Paul and Ingrid are now adjusting to life beyond injury and taking each day as it comes.”

London’s Air Ambulance is a charity that works with London hospitals and the London Ambulance Service to provide roadside support for those experiencing trauma.

Since the charity started in 1989, it has treated more than 35,000 patients. Some of those former patients met their local MP at the event to share their stories.
