Adam advises on a broad range of matters involving fraud, mis-selling, professional negligence and shareholder/partnership disputes.  He typically represents high-net worth individuals, corporations, directors and investment funds.

Adam has acted for claimants in a number of the largest and most complex group actions of recent years, including Eclipse, Peacock & Canaccord and Ingenious. He also has significant experience of advising on security for costs and litigation funding issues.

Experience

  • Eclipse Litigation: acting for 177 claimants bringing claims against HSBC in relation to their investments in the Eclipse film finance scheme, including for misrepresentation and unlawful means conspiracy.
  • Peacock & Canaccord: acting for 110 claimants in jointly managed professional negligence claims in respect of their investments in three failed tax advantaged schemes.
  • Ingenious Litigation: acting for nearly 500 claimants bringing claims in fraudulent misrepresentation, conspiracy and negligence against various parties, arising from investments in tax-efficient investment vehicles focused on films and video games. The case was listed in the Lawyer’s Top 20 Cases of 2018 and 2022.
  • The Blair Partnership & Ors v SRLV Accountants (a firm): acting for well-known literary agents in a professional negligence claim against their former accountants for advice given in connection with the acquisition and restructuring of their business.
  • Leeds City Council and Ors v Barclays Bank: acting for seven local authorities against Barclays in fraudulent misrepresentation claims in respect of their entry into so-called “Lender Option Borrower Option” (“LOBO”) loans.
  • Acting for the respondent in an application to set aside a $2.4bn freezing injunction granted over assets in the British Virgin Islands by the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court.

Career

Adam studied law at Durham University (first class honours) before obtaining an LLM, specialising in commercial law, from the University of Cambridge. He trained at a large US law firm and joined Stewarts in January 2020.

Personal

Adam enjoys most ball sports (particularly cricket), music (he plays the piano, guitar and drums), listening to history podcasts and attending the theatre.
