Anastasia has worked on a wide range of high-profile and high-value tax and public law disputes before the Tax Tribunals, High Court, Court of Appeal, Supreme Court and the Court of Justice of the European Union. Her practice spans a broad range of contentious issues across direct and indirect tax, as well as EU law and public law.

Anastasia has extensive experience advising a variety of clients, from high-net-worth individuals to multi-national corporations. She is highly adaptable and has worked across all sectors, including financial services, technology and life sciences. Anastasia draws on her previous experience of working for HMRC to design the most effective dispute resolution strategy and achieve the best result for her clients.

Experience

Anastasia’s experience includes:

  • Acting for Tayto Group Limited in a Tribunal appeal in relation to the deductibility of goodwill and group relief;
  • Acting for FCC Recycling (UK) Limited and Singleton Birch Limited in a landfill tax appeal;
  • Advising three high-net-worth individuals on a complex HMRC investigation in relation to Transfer of Assets Abroad, Transactions in Securities, CGT and domicile;
  • Acting for JPMorgan Chase Bank, N.A. in a Tribunal appeal in relation to the VAT exemption for financial services;
  • Advising a large life sciences company in relation to a DPT and transfer pricing audit as part of the Profit Diversion Compliance Facility;
  • Acting for HMRC in The Wellcome Trust Ltd v HMRC (Case C-459/19) in relation to reverse charge VAT on investment management services.

Career

Anastasia studied Law at Oxford University and completed her LPC at the University of Law. She trained and qualified at HMRC Solicitor’s Office, where she worked for over five years. Anastasia subsequently moved to Baker McKenzie before joining Stewarts in 2022.
