The Legal 500 has published the first International Arbitration Powerlist for the UK, and both Philippa Charles and Veronica Connolly feature in the list.

The Powerlist showcases 200 of the UK’s leading practitioners working in law firms and at the Bar.

Philippa is listed as a practicing solicitor of 19 years and arbitrator of three years. The Powerlist mentions her practice in the energy, power and commodities markets, as well as her expertise in Africa, Europe, North America, the Middle East and Asia.

Veronica Connolly is listed as a ‘rising star’ who has six years’ practice as a solicitor. The list mentions her expertise in the energy, power, construction, shareholder and joint venture disputes markets. She also has geographical expertise in Anglophone Africa, Europe and the Middle East.

Alongside her entry, Veronica is quoted as saying:

“I would encourage clients to consider the appointment of arbitrators who are qualified or resident in jurisdictions outside traditional arbitral centres where appropriate, particularly in large international disputes that will require arbitrators to consider evidence on, and apply the laws of, other jurisdictions.”

David Burgess, publishing director of The Legal 500 series commented in his forward to the Powerlist:

“We wanted to highlight the incredible diversity of the London market. When it comes to international arbitration, no other city on earth as the same depth of talent. In the face of stiff challenges from other cities, and with the disruption (perceived or real), introduced by Brexit, we felt it was necessary to stand up for London and give a platform to the incredible array of legal talent it offers clients.”
