Global Competition Review have interviewed Stuart Carson about his promotion to partner in the Competition Litigation department at Stewarts. Extracts from the article are set out below.

“Stuart Carson, 34, will become a partner at Stewarts on 1 May. He works in the firm’s London and Leeds offices.

“Carson specialises in complex competition damages claims. He is part of the team representing Asda, Morrisons and Argos in the Mastercard interchange fee litigation, currently before the Court of Appeal of England and Wales. He has acted in further cartel damages litigation for breaches of EU competition law in the trucking, refrigerator and technology sectors.

“Carson joined Stewarts in 2011 after working at French energy company Engie. He said he was ‘very particular’ about where he moved when returning to private practice and said he has since enjoyed working in Stewarts’ ‘fantastic’ team.

“’Stewarts is a very inclusive firm. The team has excellent technical expertise and [its members] are also a pleasure to work with,’ Carson said. ‘I’ve been very fortunate with the cases I’ve worked on, and I’ve been able to work on one of the most prominent competition cases in recent years.’

“Stewarts’ managing partner John Cahill said he was pleased to welcome a ‘talented lawyer’ like Carson to the firm’s partnership.

“Carson joins five other competition partners in Stewarts’ competition litigation practice.”

Stuart was one of five promoted to partner on 1 May 2018. The other new partners are Laura Jenkins, Lucy Ward and Martin Walsh in Commercial Litigation and Carly Kinch in Divorce and Family.

These promotions follow three lateral hires in January 2018 and brings the total number of partners to 61.
