Stewarts was pleased to co-sponsor and attend the Inter Spinal Unit Games, which took place at Stoke Mandeville Stadium from 25 to 27 April 2017.
This fantastic event allows patients from spinal units across the country to take part and compete in a variety of sports. The sports included athletics, wheelchair rugby, archery and wheelchair table tennis, to name but a few.
The games offer people who have had their lives changed after a traumatic illness or injury an opportunity to learn and compete in a variety of sports. Many patients who initially competed at the Interspinal Unit Games have since gone on to represent their country at the Paralympic Games.
The Interspinal Unit Games are a great social activity and form of rehabilitation for patients who have sustained a spinal injury.
The games organisers Wheelpower are a national charity championing British Wheelchair Sport. They are based at Stoke Mandeville Stadium, the birthplace of the Paralympics. For more information on Wheelpower please visit their website here.
Staff from WheelPower and Stoke Mandeville kindly gave Stewarts’ Legal Service team a tour of the stadium.
During a busy day of competing, the leading wheelchair sports coaches took time out of their schedule to explain their sport and even allowed Stewarts to try their hand at archery and rifle shooting.
This year’s overall winner were Salisbury and joint runners up were Stoke Mandeville and Stanmore.
