James has a broad range of experience acting on high-value, complex commercial disputes often with multi-jurisdictional elements. He has primarily worked on cases involving civil/commercial fraud, breach of contract and professional negligence claims. James has frequently acted for high-net-worth individuals, sovereign wealth funds, private and public pension funds and liquidators. He has a particular interest in commercial fraud.

Experience

Recent cases James has worked on include:

  • Acting for a large public institution in a billion-dollar fraud claim against over 40 defendants based around the globe.
  • Advising a UK company on a breach of contract and fraudulent misrepresentation claim brought against them by a foreign government entity in the High Court.
  • Acting for two defendants in an alleged £1.44 billion fraud relating to fraudulent applications to claim refunds of dividend withholding tax.

Career

James studied History at the University of Exeter before completing his GDL and LPC at BPP Law School. He joined Stewarts in 2021 as a paralegal in the Commercial Litigation department before training at the firm and qualifying in 2025.

Personal

James is a keen sportsman and enjoys watching cricket and rugby. He is also an avid cyclist, having completed the London to Paris cycle with Stewarts in 2022.
