James represents clients who have sustained spinal cord injuries, brain injuries, serious life-changing orthopaedic injuries, and fatal injuries. James represents both UK residents who have been injured overseas, and international clients who have been injured in the UK.

He is currently acting for clients who have been injured in England and Wales as well as in Scotland, Spain, Greece, Finland and South Africa,

As a cross-border lawyer, James frequently deals with issues of jurisdiction and applicable law, and has close ties with foreign lawyers across the world.

Experience

  • Achieved confidential settlement for a London city banker who suffered severe orthopaedic injuries in a road traffic accident at Oktoberfest. The claim involved application of German law and included jurisdictional arguments; a ‘torpedo’ action in the German courts was successfully resisted.
  • Achieved settlement for a Nigerian national struck by a vehicle whilst crossing the road in London, resulting in catastrophic life changing injuries including a severe traumatic brain injury. The total settlement had a value of just over £11.8m, providing for a live-in carer and the opportunity to live as independently as possible, including funds to purchase suitably adapted accommodation.
  • Achieved settlement for a duel national living abroad but visiting friends in England over the school summer break, when they were involved in a road traffic collision that left them with a life-changing severe brain injury and requiring 24/7 care.

Career

James secured a First-Class Honours degree in Law before qualifying as a solicitor in 2015. He joined Stewarts in April 2020 having previously worked at Irwin Mitchell.

Accreditations and Memberships

James is an APIL accredited Senior Litigator and is accredited as an APIL ‘Accidents Aboard Specialist’. He is a member of the Pan European Organisation of Personal Injury Lawyers (PEOPIL) and is heavily involved in PEOPIL’s New Lawyers Group.

James’ work has been published in both the legal and national press, including in BBC News. He has written for the Stewarts website on issues affecting international injury victims and noteworthy cases. James has also presented at internal and external conferences, including at PEOPIL.

Personal

In his spare time James enjoys gardening, long distance running, countryside walks and getting to the theatre when life allows.
