Kin has advised clients on matters in the energy, construction, infrastructure, technology (including cryptocurrency and Web3) and transportation sectors.

He has experience with institutional and ad-hoc arbitration, and with a range of applicable laws and arbitral seats. His work frequently has an international element, and he has worked on matters arising from the Middle East, Asia and Africa. He also assists clients with arbitration-related litigation before the English courts, including anti-suit injunctive relief, and has experience advising clients on the enforcement of awards in multiple different jurisdictions.

Experience

A selection of Kin’s experience includes:

  • Advising a Japanese petroleum company in an ICC arbitration against an Indonesian mining company related to alleged breaches of multiple coal purchase agreements
  • Advising an international consortium in an ICC arbitration involving a US$10bn refinery and petrochemical complex in Southeast Asia
  • Advising a Chinese contractor in an ICC arbitration and related regional court proceedings on disputes arising from a crude oil storage project in the UAE
  • Advising a consortium of international oil and gas companies in multi-billion US dollar claims against an East African state arising from oil exploration and production agreements
  • Advising three state-owned enterprises on their exposure and recommended defences arising from a US$15bn award against the state

Career

Kin studied at Queen’s University Belfast and completed the Bar Professional Training Course at BPP Holborn. He is qualified in Malaysia and is cross-qualified in the UK.

Prior to joining Stewarts, Kin was an associate in the international arbitration team at Herbert Smith Freehills (Kuala Lumpur) and in a boutique disputes firm in London.

Personal

Kin enjoys musicals, football and reading fiction (anything not legal related). He spends most of his time preventing his Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Onyx, from eating things off the floor.
