Expertise

Sophie advises in relation to the financial consequences of divorce for high profile and high net worth clients, including the preparation of pre- and post-nuptial agreements. In addition, she has experience of cases involving financial provision for the children of unmarried parents under Schedule 1 of the Children Act 1989.

Sophie has a particular interest in private children law and regularly advises parents in high-conflict disputes regarding child arrangements, including where serious allegations of domestic violence and abuse have been made. Sophie can also advise in respect of applications to relocate (both internally and outside of England and Wales) and applications made under the Hague Convention following international child abduction.

Experience

Sophie’s previous experience includes:

  • Resolving arrangements for children following dispute between their parents, including securing an increase in a parent’s contact with their child and resisting an application to prohibit internal relocation.
  • Advising on high value financial settlements on divorce, particularly cases which involve international elements and complex family trust structures.
  • Negotiating pre-nuptial agreements for a financially stronger party in order to protect family wealth.

Career

Sophie graduated from the University of the West of England in 2015 with a first class law degree. Sophie joined Stewarts in September 2016 and qualified as an Associate in October 2021 after training with the firm.

Personal

Outside of work, Sophie enjoys spending time with friends and family, visiting the theatre, Pilates and reading. Sophie has previously spent time travelling in Asia and visits new places as often as possible.
