The second edition of Cameroon Arbitration Week took place between 2 and 5 May 2023. This year’s theme was “Arbitration/ADR: An important recipe for investment and development?”, aligning with the object of the 1st edition of the Forum International des Investissements de la Diaspora au Cameroun (FIIDIC) held in Yaounde the week before. The five day event of Cameroon Arbitration Week was held across locations in Douala and Buea.

This year’s Cameroon Arbitration Week welcomed a host of speakers, including (amongst others) His Excellency Albert Fotabong Njoteh (Cameroon’s High Commissioner to the UK and Northern Ireland), Gaston Kenfack (President of APAA), Catherine Dixon (Director General of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators), Diamana Diawara (Regional Director for Africa, ICC) and Hannibal Uwaifo (President of the African Bar Association). A full list of the speakers at the event and the presentations they delivered is available here.

Daniel Wilmot Partner in the International Arbitration team at Stewarts, participated on Day 2 of the event. He presented on the role of national courts in supporting the growth of international arbitration and making a jurisdiction attractive to foreign investment.

Daniel and a number of other presenters who were unable to travel to Cameroon for the event delivered their presentations virtually. The organisers of Cameroon Arbitration Week have prepared a video of all presentations delivered virtually, which is available below.

The video may be freely shared or linked to. You can view all of the virtual presentations here.

Cameroon Arbitration Week is an annual initiative founded and organised by Nkafu Arbitration Services (NAS) Africa, under the guiding hand of Cameroon and English qualified barrister, Julius Nkafu.  Alongside the speakers, the event received the support of many institutions, including (amongst others) AfAA, CIArb, APAA, ABA, GICAM and REP-COD.
