All too often we see first hand the consequences for patients and their families when medical treatment goes wrong. We see many cases where sub-standard medical care results in significant injury or even death.
We do all we can to offer legal advice and support to those who are seriously injured or bereaved. We also seek to do more. We are committed to improving patient safety to reduce the risk of medical errors and negligence. Our experience of running serious injury and fatal claims for more than 20 years has shown us that, time and again, the same mistakes are made. This involves:
- Liaising with medical professionals and hospitals to obtain early disclosure of serious untoward incident reports and early admissions of liability
- Ensuring clinicians comply with their duty of candour
- Inviting hospitals to confirm what steps they are taking to ensure a similar episode does not occur in the future
- Working closely with patient safety organisations to campaign for a reduction in the incidence of medical harm caused
In particular, we work with organizations such as Action Against Medical Accidents (AvMA) and Clinical Human Factors Group (CHFG).
We also liaise closely with our panel of expert medical advisors and key clinicians to ensure the issue of patient safety is always addressed at the outcome of each claim.
