Stewarts has achieved excellent results in the most recent edition of The Legal 500, with every practice area being ranked within the guide.

Stewarts’ newest department, Trust and Probate Litigation, makes its debut in the guide with James Price and Emma McCall noted for their expertise.

The firm’s Divorce and Family department maintains its top ranking and is described as “simply one of the best”. This year, it has a record number of lawyers mentioned with 12 featuring across the firm’s two offices. This includes four leading individuals and one next generation lawyer.

Tax Litigation maintains its ranking and has two lawyers recommended. The guide notes the team’s work in bringing group action cases and acting for high net worth individuals.

The employment department maintains its top ranking for both senior executives and employers, and has two lawyers featured.

The International Arbitration department moves up a banding. All the partners in the department are mentioned including new partners Matthew Knowles who joined in February 2017, and Al Trent who was promoted to the partnership in May 2017.

New Competition Litigation co-heads Kate Pollock and Kenny Henderson are both noted within the guide for their expertise, and the team is said to “deliver with passion, creativity and integrity, which inspires the confidence of clients and counsel”.

The firm maintains its strong rankings across the Commercial Litigation group, being listed for civil fraud, banking litigation and commercial litigation. The guide says: “In the big-ticket, conflict-free commercial litigation space, the firm is superb; it has an excellent range of strong litigators with top-level experience that allows them to go toe-to-toe with the Magic Circle”. New partners David Hughes and Ian Gatt QC are both ranked here, bringing the total number of lawyers mentioned across the department to 15.

The “technically and strategically very good” Clinical Negligence team maintains its rankings across both offices and has eight lawyers who feature within the guide.

The firm’s top ranked Personal Injury department is noted for “handling a range of catastrophic cases, including brain and spinal injury, amputation, burns and brachial plexus” and has six lawyers listed as leading individuals with another six recommended across both offices.

The International Injury department is described as “a standout firm for travel and personal injury” and the Aviation department “completely dominates the field of aviation accidents for claimants”. Both have maintained their top tier ranking.

In summary, the firm has been listed in 16 practice areas, eight as leading practice areas. It  has 62 lawyers recommended, some across more than one category, 18 of which are leading individuals or next generation lawyers.
