In the first ever NR Times Awards, presented by Alastair MacColl of NR Times, Stewarts was awarded Brain/Spinal Injury Law Firm of the Year.

The judges acknowledged our team’s work acting on the most complex cases, with our lawyers only ever handling a select number cases each to ensure that each client receives the full attention they deserve. NR Times also acknowledged our Pro Bono team’s work providing a free comprehensive legal service for those most in need; and the launch of Onward, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting people who are in hospital with life-changing injuries or serious illness.

Partner Warren Maxwell accepted the award on behalf of the team. He said: “I am delighted to accept the brain/spinal injury law firm of the year award on behalf of my colleagues within the Injury group at Stewarts. At Stewarts we represent some of the most seriously injured and vulnerable people in the community and it’s a great pleasure to receive this recognition for our legal work, work of which we are extremely proud.

NR Times is a publication covering brain and spinal injuries and neuro conditions from every angle. The NR Times Awards were launched this year for the first time to recognise and celebrate the outstanding practice, innovation and dedication from those working across the field of neuro-rehab in changing the lives of patients. The brain/spinal injury law firm category was sponsored by creative arts therapies provider Chroma, and the awards as a whole by care provider Elysium Healthcare.

More about our team

Our Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence departments only act for clients who have sustained serious life-changing injuries, in particular spinal cord and brain injury. Across our London and Leeds offices, we have over 100 lawyers dedicated to acting for people who have sustained significant neurological injuries.

In 2022, Stewarts helped 51 of our PI clients secure damages awards of £1 million or more. Together those 51 clients received more than £240 million in compensation, an average of more than £4.7 million per client. We always work hard to secure interim payments for clients where possible, to contribute towards ongoing rehabilitation and to pay for care, equipment and accommodation.

Lawyers from our injury teams are engaged with technological and rehabilitation experts to ensure they remain familiar with the latest technologies to help serious injury patients. On our website we regularly publish content involving insight from experts, including as part of our Stewarts Soundbites webinar series. Our partners have also written for publications including the Brain & Spinal Handbook, PI Focus and New Law Journal.

Both our Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence teams are ranked #1 in the Leeds and Yorkshire markets in The Legal 500. Many of the partners and associates in the team are also acknowledged as leaders in their fields. Stewarts has also been recognised on multiple occasions by The Times Best Law Firms, including the 2024 guide, as a top three firm in England and Wales.
