Expertise

Since 2004, Jane has worked with clients (both children and adults) who have sustained life changing injuries, usually as a result of accidents on the road or in the workplace. The majority of Jane’s clients have sustained acquired brain or spinal cord injuries; however, she has also regularly acted for individuals who have suffered serious orthopaedic injuries, often leading to limb amputations.

Jane is client focused, empathetic and prioritises a client’s rehabilitation, therapy, support, accommodation and equipment needs from the outset of a case. She develops close working relationships with her clients, their family members, case managers and therapists to achieve the very best outcomes.

Experience

Jane concludes a number of multi-million pound settlements each year, the majority of which are the subject of anonymity orders.

Due to the catastrophic nature of the brain injuries sustained, a number of her clients have lacked capacity to manage their own finances, property and affairs, and she has considerable experience of working with professional deputies appointed by the Court of Protection.

Jane also has significant experience of acting in cases involving upper and lower limb amputations. These cases have involved trialling the latest prosthetics, including those produced outside the United Kingdom.

Recognition

The Legal 500 said Jane is one of a team of “dynamic lawyers who are beyond capable, straight talking, approachable, dependable and who ensure they develop quality human relationships with their clients.”

Jane has also been ranked by Chambers UK for seven years. Referees says she “is a real star”, “an excellent and very client centred solicitor”, and “a very determined litigator”.

Career

Jane qualified into the Serious Injury team at Irwin Mitchell in 2009 and made partner in 2021, having worked in the Newcastle office since her time as a paralegal. Jane joined Stewarts as a partner in 2023.
