Expertise

Kirsty has experience of progressing damages claims in the UK courts that arise as a result of competition law infringements both at UK and EU level and on a standalone basis. She has experience dealing with corporate clients based in the UK, throughout Europe and with particular expertise in cases involving the US. Kirsty’s clients come from a variety of sectors, including finance, energy, automotive, technology, transport, construction, food and pharmaceuticals.

Kirsty has experience of proceedings in the High Court, Court of Appeal and the Competition Appeal Tribunal. Kirsty was also part of the team that represented Asda, Argos and Morrisons in their landmark Supreme Court victory, against Mastercard in the long-running multilateral interchange fee litigation.

Experience

  • Acting for a significant group of major household name retailers in their respective multi-million pound claims against Visa and Mastercard for damages relating to multilateral interchange fees.
  • Acting for Swiss-based LafargeHolcim, one of the world’s largest building suppliers, in relation to its multi-million Euro pan-European truck cartel claim in the Competition Appeal Tribunal.
  • Acting for Gemalto, now part of global security giant Thales Group headquartered in France, in their substantial pan-European smart card chip cartel claim.
  • Acting for M&S against DAF and Mercedes-Benz Group in a multi-million pound claim following on from the well-publicised Trucks Decision of the European Commission.
  • Acting for Swedish-State owned energy company Vattenfall in its long-running dispute against major power cables manufacturers arising from the high voltage power cables cartel.

Career

Kirsty joined Stewarts as a paralegal in 2014 and trained with the firm from 2017 to 2019. She qualified into the Competition Litigation team in September 2019.
