Expertise

Sophie has practiced exclusively in Family law since 2014 and has expertise in multiple areas of private family law including, divorce and dissolution, child arrangements, financial disputes (both children based and those resulting from a relationship).

Sophie also advises on international child abduction and adoption matters.

Sophie also provides advice in relation to non-contentious matters, such as nuptial agreements, parenting plans and cohabitation agreements.

Experience

Sophie acted on behalf of a family in the midst of complex child arrangements issues following an Adoption in a Care Application, in the High Court in 2019. The case was reported given the circumstances of the case and following the 2 year long set of proceedings, which cumulated in Sophie advocating opposite leading counsel in a 4 day Final Hearing.

Career

Sophie graduated with a Bachelor of Laws, Solicitors Qualifying Exempting degree from Northumbria University in 2012. Sophie then qualified in 2018 at a specialist family law firm. Sophie joined the team at Stewarts, leaving a niche boutique firm practicing in all areas of private family law. There, Sophie acted as a mentor for all junior members of the family team.

Accreditations and Memberships

Sophie is a member of Resolution sitting on the local North and West Yorkshire Young Resolution committee and the Resolution EDI Sub-committee.  Sophie is a member of the department’s Professional Practices Group, regularly advising professional clients (or their spouses) on issues arsing from relationship breakdown.

Personal

Sophie enjoys endurance road running and cycling with her local team. In her down time, she also enjoys spending time with her partner, friends and walking her dog, Poppy. Sophie regularly travels, having spent much of her childhood in Madrid and returns to visit family as often as possible.
