Stewarts has once again been acknowledged in the latest edition of the Chambers Global guide to leading international law firms. Our Commercial Litigation, Competition Litigation and International Arbitration teams are ranked in the 2024 guide.

Multiple partners also receive individual rankings in the new edition, including Head of Competition Kate Pollock, who rises this year to Band 1; Head of Tax Litigation and Resolution David Pickstone; and International Arbitration partner Daniel Wilmot.

Competition Litigation

Our Competition Litigation team has retained its Band 2 ranking in the Competition Law: Private Enforcement: Claimant – UK section. Sources say “the team is smart, efficient and easy to work with. They are tackling complex cases at a very detailed level… they have a laser focus on getting the right result for their clients.” Chambers singles out the team’s work for Gemalto in its claim against Infineon Technologies for competition infringement in relation to the smartcard chips cartel.

Head of Department Kate Pollock rises this year to a Band 1 ranking, reflecting her rise in the latest edition of Chambers UK. “Kate is excellent. She has great commercial acumen, is a clever litigator and is extremely easy to work with,” interviewees reported. “She is very astute and a great team leader.”

Commercial and Corporate Litigation

Our Commercial Litigation team is listed in Band 2 for the second consecutive year in the Commercial and Corporate Litigation section. Chambers says: “Stewarts has a sizeable presence in contentious corporate matters and the ability to handle disputes with big-ticket values. The London team has a solid reputation for taking the lead on behalf of claimants in large-scale shareholder actions while also assisting clients with breach of contract claims and other commercial disputes.”

“It’s a very efficient and focused team with clear attention to detail and excellent, relevant commercial and advocacy experience,” sources say. “The lawyers at Stewarts have an outstanding knowledge of the law. They are also skilled in strategy and are good negotiators.”

The Commercial Litigation team is also ranked in the European and UK guides. The team’s Chambers Global profile can be found here.

International Arbitration

Our International Arbitration team maintains its Band 5 ranking in international commercial arbitration. “The firm demonstrates particular prowess in Africa-related disputes, and offers specialist experience in the energy and telecoms sectors,” Chambers says. “It acts on behalf of an impressive roster of companies, funds and high net worth individuals… and is experienced in arbitration held under LCIA, SCC and ICC rules.” The positive feedback also touches upon the team’s growing credentials in the investor-state arbitration space (separately ranked).

Newly ranked this year, partner Daniel Wilmot “is particularly noted for his expertise in disputes arising from Africa.” Interviewee feedback said “Daniel is adept at dealing with lawyers in different jurisdictions. He’s a hard worker who rolls up his sleeves and he’s very good with clients” and that “he’s fantastic – he spots difficulties in cases and doesn’t get flustered.” Daniel and the team are also ranked in Chambers UK’s international commercial arbitration listings, alongside other rankings in the directories reflecting the team’s areas of focus (such as Alejandro Garcia’s recognition as a leading arbitration lawyer in Latin American disputes).

Tax: Contentious

Head of Tax Litigation and Resolution David Pickstone maintains his Band 3 ranking in the contentious tax section of Chambers Global. He is also ranked in the UK guide, for which sources said he “is a highly effective litigator who combines in-depth experience of the tax and financial services sectors with first-class litigation skills.”

David is also ranked in the Chambers High Net Worth Guide.
