Having spent over five years working in Stewarts’ International Arbitration team, James now provides a wide range of professional support and knowledge delivery services to the firm’s commercial dispute practices.
His work includes the creation and delivery of legal product and training, internal and external dissemination of legal and industry knowledge, and providing Stewarts’ lawyers with technical advice and assistance.
Experience
James has deep prior experience working on arbitrations conducted under the rules of the LCIA, the SCC, the ICC, the SAC and the LMAA, and on arbitration-related litigation matters before the English courts. He also has significant experience of advising on matters before the Commercial Court.
Highlight cases include:
- Assisting a Nigerian oil and gas corporate in English Commercial Court and Court of Appeal proceedings on arbitration-related anti-suit injunctive and related relief, as well as assisting in the related $1bn+ arbitration claims (ICC, English/Nigerian law, London)
- Acting for an Indian pharmaceutical company in its multi-million dollar arbitration against a Chinese white-label products manufacturer (English law, London)
- Successfully defending an £11m High Court claim brought against a prominent property development firm. Achieved discontinuance of the claim and an order for the client’s entire costs in the action.
Career
James trained at Stewarts and has been at the firm for a number of years. He studied at the Universities of Glasgow and York. He completed the GDL and the LPC at the University of Law.

James is a member of the LCIA’s Young International Arbitration Group and the Association of Litigation Professional Support.

James plays classical trombone, mostly in symphony orchestras. He loves long-distance walking, cinema, and visual art.
