We are pleased to welcome Anita Jewitt as a partner and the new Head of our Clinical Negligence department. Anita joins from Irwin Mitchell, where she acted in a leading role as a partner in the Medical Negligence team.
Anita started her career in a role at Stewarts while studying at university. She has since specialised in complex, high value clinical negligence claims for almost the entirety of her career. She has considerable experience in representing children who have sustained a serious brain injury as a result of failings in their care.
Recognised as a leading figure in medical negligence law by Chambers UK and the Legal 500, Anita is also an accredited member of the AvMA (Action Against Medical Accidents) specialist Clinical Negligence panel, a specialist member of APIL (Association of Personal Injury Lawyers) and a member of the charity Twins Trust.
As well as acting for her own clients, Anita will oversee our Clinical Negligence department, which comprises teams in London and Leeds, which only acts for clients who have sustained serious life-changing injuries.
Anita comments:
“I am delighted to be joining Stewarts as Head of Clinical Negligence. As one of the leading clinical negligence practices in the country, Stewarts has a talented team who focus specifically on representing Claimants who have suffered catastrophic injuries. I come to this role with 18 years’ experience representing individuals who have been injured as a result of medical negligence, particularly children who have sustained a brain injury around the time of their birth. I am looking forward to leading the team through this next chapter, and in building upon the firm and departments’ existing success.”
Dan Herman, Head of Personal Injury and previously our interim Head of Clinical Negligence, comments:
“Anita will be a fantastic Head of Clinical Negligence. As well as being a technically brilliant lawyer, her values entirely align with those of the wider injury group at Stewarts: providing a service that is second to none; securing the best possible outcomes for our clients; and supporting our people to achieve their clients’ objectives and their own ambitions. I’ve no doubt that, working alongside the other Clinical Negligence partners, she will take the department to new heights.”
Stuart Dench, Managing Partner, comments:
“Stewarts has an outstanding history and reputation in serious injury work. Although we have diversified in the last 20 years our injury group remains a key focus for us. Anita’s return as our Head of Clinical Negligence adds strength and will help us build on our top ranked, market-leading reputation.”
Following Anita’s arrival, our Clinical Negligence team includes 10 partners and 19 total qualified lawyers. Stewarts has 90 partners in total and more than 400 staff based in London and Leeds.
