Stewarts has achieved excellent results in the Chambers UK 2021 guide, with 16 practice areas ranked and 52 individual rankings across the firm.

The firm’s top-ranked Divorce and Family department now has 12 individuals ranked across London and Leeds, including two star individuals. The London team is described as having “one of the strongest partner line ups in London” and having “handpicked possibly the strongest associate cohort in family law”. Another source adds: “The way they have combined a number of heavy hitters in the field into a close-knit team that operates seamlessly is a real credit to them.” The Leeds team is praised for its “combination of technical know-how and the ability to get on with the client and be trusted by them”.

The firm’s injury departments maintained all their rankings across London and Leeds. The top-ranked Personal Injury department now has 12 individuals ranked between the two offices, and is described as “an excellent law firm”. The team is lauded for adding “substantial value onto claims” and is recognised for “handling a lot of brain injury claims and getting high-value compensation for their clients”.

The top-ranked Clinical Negligence department in Leeds is described as “particularly good at making their clients feel at ease and providing a compassionate and understanding approach”. Another source says of the London team: “They are professionals who really care. They have very good communication and go the extra mile for their clients.” Another adds: “They are very thorough, everything gets done extremely quickly and I’m impressed with their handling of the case.”

The Band 1 Aviation department is noted for its recent work representing the families of victims of the 2018 Lion Air Boeing 737 Max 8 disaster in their claims against Boeing. The team has four of its lawyers ranked.

The top ranked International Injury team has all of its partners ranked in the guide again this year. The team is praised as being “sensitive to their clients’ needs and always try to make things as easy and comfortable for them as possible”.

The firm’s Commercial Litigation offering gets a number of rankings for its various specialist areas and holds 15 individual lawyer rankings.

The Litigation team in Yorkshire is ranked in Band 1. One source describes the team as “determined, composed and a pleasure to work with”. Another says how impressed they were with the handling of a case, reporting the team as acting “efficiently and tactically”. One source describes the London Litigation team’s lawyers as “willing to put into the case whatever effort is required to get the correct result for their client”.

The Corporate and Commercial Litigation team is described as “confident and methodical” with one source saying: “They are very involved in thinking out the issues and doing the groundwork on a case.” Another source says: “They are not swayed by the emotions of a situation but stay hard on the facts.”

The Fraud department is said to have “an energy and commitment to get cracking and win the case, which is refreshing”. Another adds that the firm is “a really-high quality firm”, adding “the work product is of a very high standard”. Their work in advising a group of 350 investors in the Ingenious Litigation is noted as a standout example of their work this year.

One source says of the Banking Litigation team: “The quality of both the work and the people at the firm is incredibly high.” The team is also praised for “running the case superbly”.

The Competition Litigation team, who earlier this year represented a number of retailer clients in the Supreme Court against MasterCard over its use of interchange fees, is described as “a fantastic team” that is “extremely organised”.

The Tax Litigation and Investigations department is ranked for the first time in this year’s guide, and is described as being “competent and efficient.” One client says: “They are responsive, organised, commercial and dedicated.” Another says: “The advice is well tempered and they deliver a great service.”

The International Arbitration department also achieves its first ranking in the guide, and is described as “a class act”. The guide describes the team as “supportive and collaborative”. Another source adds that the team “comes out with very practical and innovative solutions to legal issues and are a very intelligent and knowledgeable team”.
