Stewarts’ UK ranked No. 1 Divorce & Family team has received outstanding recognition, securing two prestigious accolades that underscore its position as the pre-eminent divorce and family practice in the UK. These two awards add to the continued top-tier rankings for the team and partners in the latest Legal 500, Chambers & Partners and Spear’s Magazine rankings.
Family Law Case of the Year
At the 2025 Family Law Awards, Stewarts secured the “Family Law Case of the Year” award (alongside barristers chambers 1 Hare Court) for its work in the landmark Supreme Court decision of Standish v Standish [2025] UKSC 26.
In this groundbreaking case, the Supreme Court upheld the Court of Appeal’s ruling to reduce the wife’s award from £45 to £25m (45%) – the largest ever reduction to a divorce award by the Court of Appeal in England & Wales.
The case was led by Partner, Sam Longworth, supported by Partner, Lucy Stewart-Gould and Associate, Fiona Porter, supported by the barrister team at 1 Hare Court: Tim Bishop KC, Professor Rebecca Bailey Harris, and Thomas Harvey.
Family Lawyer of the Year
Adding to the success, highly ranked Partner, Sam Longworth was named “Family Lawyer of the Year” at the 2025 Spear’s Awards, often described as “the Oscars of the private client world.” Judged by a panel of family law experts, the award recognises Sam’s exceptional skill in complex, high-stake disputes, exemplified most recently by his leadership in the Standish litigation.
Sam is the third Divorce & Family partner from Stewarts to receive this accolade, joining Emma Hatley and Debbie Chism, further highlighting the unrivalled quality, depth and expertise of Stewarts’ market-leading Divorce & Family team.
Highly regarded Divorce & Family team sets the benchmark
Together, these awards reflect not only the team’s ability to deliver results in some of the most high-profile and high-value family law cases, but also the individual excellence of its lawyers, who continue to set benchmarks in the profession.
Partner, Sam Longworth comments:
“We are delighted to have won Family Case of the Year (alongside 1 Hare Court) at the Family Law Awards. This recognition reflects the incredible work of every member of the Standish team and the wider Stewarts Divorce & Family team.”
