Funmilayo’s breadth of experience in legal compliance and data protection enables her to continually develop initiatives to maintain high professional standards across the firm; collaborating along the way with both business services and legal practice teams. More recently she has been responsible for implementing the firm’s compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Funmilayo’s expertise covers a broad remit encompassing legal compliance, AML, risk management, Lexcel and professional ethics. She has a particularly extensive knowledge of the SRA Code of Conduct. As the firm’s Data Protection Officer (DPO), Funmilayo oversees compliance with data protection legislation and privacy rights.
Prior to joining Stewarts in 2011, Funmilayo was a Senior Practice Standards Adviser at the SRA. This role involved on-site inspections of law firms, providing guidance on compliance with SRA requirements and conducting investigations where necessary. Other experience includes a role in legal compliance at the Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner and as an immigration caseworker in a busy legal aid practice. Funmilayo graduated with BA (Hons) in Law and English, then went on to obtain an LLM before undertaking the Legal Practice Course (LPC).
