Experience
Specific experience includes:
- Acting for the Public Institution for Social Security in Kuwait, the claimant in one of the largest ever UK High Court trials, seeking to recover alleged bribes of circa $1 billion against more than 40 global defendants, including various banks, financial institutions and other accessories.
- Acting for 112 financial institutions claiming under s.90 FSMA against Tesco Plc in respect of its £263 million accounting misstatements.
- Acting for a Chinese conglomerate in a claim for fraudulent misrepresentation and breach of contract arising from the purchase of a Chilean salmon farming business, which was ultimately stayed following a contested jurisdiction challenge.
- Acting for one of the parties to a multi-billion dollar trust dispute in Bermuda (the trial was conducted remotely across several jurisdictions).
- Advising a group of leading UK high street retailers in relation to claims against Visa and Mastercard arising from alleged breaches of EU and domestic competition law in relation to interchange fees (in both the High Court and Competition Appeal Tribunal).
- Acting for an Indian conglomerate regarding its repayment obligations under a syndicated facility agreement.
- Advising a large Australian business group in relation to a contractual dispute with its clearing house.
Expertise
Over the years, Zach has advised on a broad range of cases including, contractual/breach of warranty claims, civil fraud cases, conflict of law/jurisdiction disputes, professional negligence and insurance claims, securities claims under FSMA, shareholder disputes, trust disputes, costs disputes and competition law matters. Zach has also acted on several regulatory matters and internal investigations for corporates and individuals.
Career
Zach joined Stewarts in November 2015. Before that, Zach worked at Clifford Chance for over seven years (having trained and qualified there).
