Stewarts was proud to attend the 2019 WheelPower National Junior Games, which took place at Stoke Mandeville Stadium, Buckinghamshire from 30 September to 3 October.

The WheelPower National Junior Games is an annual event held at Stoke Mandeville Stadium, the birthplace of the Paralympic movement. This year, just under 100 children aged between 12 and 18 participated in the four-day event.

The games encourage young people with disabilities to try a wide range of sports in a friendly environment with the guidance of some of the country’s leading coaches in disability sport. This helps them learn new skills, gain confidence, develop friendships and improve their physical and psychological wellbeing. The ‘have-a-go’ nature of the event allows participants to find a sport they enjoy with the hope that they continue doing it after the games.

The National Junior Games are organised by WheelPower, a national charity providing sporting opportunities for people with physical impairments. More information on Wheelpower can be found here.

WheelPower aims to transform lives through sport. Many participants who competed at the National Junior Games have since gone on to represent their country at the Paralympic Games, such as Paralympic stars Ade Adepitan, David Weir and Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson.

This year, the sports and activities at the event included archery, athletics, basketball, boccia, bowls, cue sports, fencing, golf, handcycling, polybat, powerlifting, rugby, swimming, table games, tennis and zone hockey.

Grace Horvath-Franco, who attended the event on behalf of Stewarts, said: “It was a fun and enlightening day. It was great to see the children enjoying themselves while learning new skills and taking part in friendly competition.”

The event was a great success and Stewarts looks forward to attending the WheelPower National Junior Games in the future.
