Stewarts RCA Secret 2018 was the most successful yet, raising £48,886 for RCA Fund, the student scholarship fund that provides opportunities to emerging artists and designers.

Over 1,800 postcard-sized pieces of art were donated by artists, designers, students and alumni. Each artist’s identity remains anonymous until after a buyer has purchased the postcard.

Contributors this year included Grayson Perry, Jeremy Deller, conceptual artist Ryan Gander, contemporary artist Bob and Roberta Smith, painter and sculptor Maggi Hambling, fashion designer Sir Paul Smith, and Wallace and Gromit creator Nick Park.

RCA Vice-Chancellor, Dr Paul Thompson, posted a letter of thanks on the RCA Secret website, thanking all the supporters of the exhibition, as well as those who contributed works of art for sale. In the letter, he outlines the sort of help the RCA Fund provides to students:

“This year I heard from some of the students (now graduates) who were able to complete their studies at the RCA thanks to financial alleviation provided by the RCA Fund. This included a painter and single parent who needed to meet family commitments while studying, and an animator who was hospitalised with a life-limiting autoimmune illness during their time at the college.”
