Stewarts welcomes new partner Giles Salmond to our Tax Litigation and Resolution team in London. Giles joins from Eversheds Sutherland, where he was a partner and UK Head of Indirect Taxes and Tax Dispute Resolution.

Giles is a leading and widely-recognised tax litigator with over 25 years of experience with a particular specialism in complex VAT litigation.

Giles has acted for clients in a number of leading indirect tax cases over the years including the historic decision in Fleming and Condé Nast v HMRC before the House of Lords, which paved the way for a change in the law permitting taxpayers to make retrospective claims for VAT incorrectly paid totalling billions in value; and in MG Rover Group Ltd and Others v HMRC at the Court of Appeal, one of the leading cases on the operation of UK VAT groups, as well as other important cases on taxpayers’ legitimate expectations.

He is recognised as a leading figure in The Legal 500 and Chambers Global.

Giles joins existing partners David Pickstone, Matthew Greene, James Le Gallais and Alex Lerner. His arrival follows that of Matthew Greene, who joined the team at Stewarts in June 2023.

Head of Tax Litigation and Resolution David Pickstone comments: “I am very excited to welcome Giles to our team at Stewarts. His vast experience in market-leading indirect tax cases adds further depth to our substantial tax disputes offering.”

Giles comments: “I look forward to join Stewarts’ Tax Litigation and Resolution Team, adding further deep expertise and building on the great success the team has had providing specialist tax dispute resolution services to many clients.”
