International recognition of our team

Our team is listed in Chambers and The Legal 500, the leading directories of market-leading and internationally recognised solicitors in England and overseas, and has risen swiftly through the tier rankings of both publications in recent years.

Moving up a band in Chambers UK this year, our team places higher in the UK-wide Commercial Arbitration section with all three partners receiving individual rankings. The 2025 guide says “Stewarts has excellent practitioners, who are sophisticated, hands-on and personable. The team is very skilful in navigating complex issues and the specifics of the London arbitration system.”

Stewarts also rose through the rankings of The Legal 500’s International Arbitration category. This year the team scored an additional ranking in Public International Law for the first time, and Alejandro Garcia is acknowledged as a leading partner in the field. Testimonials said Stewarts is a “go-to firm for complex, cross-border disputes worldwide” and “a highly sophisticated disputes practice, with people with real expertise in arbitration law and practice. Highly responsive and truly international in its approach.”

India Business Law Journal (IBLJ) has recognised Stewarts as a significant player for India-related arbitration and litigation in the latest edition of its guide to the market’s top players, with Sherina Petit recognised in the A-List of India’s International Top Lawyers.

Sherina is also listed for the 13th consecutive year in the Chambers Asia-Pacific Guide 2025 for India-related dispute resolution. Interviewees for the guide said: “Sherina stands out, being the remarkable leader she is. She took responsibility and steered the ship out of extremely troubled waters. She’s an absolute asset.”

Our team has also climbed the rankings in the Legal 500’s guide to the best international firms for arbitration work in Latin America, which says the team has “an established reputation in investment treaty and commercial arbitration and frequently team up with Latin America-located firms as co-counsel on significant cases.” Alejandro Garcia is recognised as a ‘next generation partner’ in the guide; Legal 500 acknowledges that “he and the team are extremely skilled at finding quick and creative solutions… their legal knowledge is extraordinary, allowing them to provide effective solutions.”

Chambers UK recognises that our team has particular prowess in Africa-related disputes. Stewarts acts “on behalf of an impressive roster of companies, funds and high net worth individuals, alongside acting for sovereign states in BIT claims, and is experienced in arbitration held under LCIA, SCC and ICC rules,” the 2025 guide says. Dan Wilmot’s work on Africa-related matters means he is acknowledged as “an excellent strategic and commercial lawyer. He understands the legal landscape of the case but he is able to hone in and give clients the advice that they need.”

Dan Wilmot also features in the latest edition of the Thought Leaders: Global Elite report also published by Lexology. This report “aims to shine a light on what puts these lawyers and experts at the peak of the profession. They are worthy of special mention owing not only to their vast expertise and experience advising on some of the world’s most significant and cutting-edge legal matters, but also their ability to innovate, inspire, and go above and beyond to deliver for their clients.”

More on the Lexology Index

Lexology Index: Arbitration 2025 is based on research by Lexology and GAR and relies on nominations from peers and clients to determine “the leading names in the field”. The guide does not rank firms or organisations, only individual practitioners. Fewer than one-third of the lawyers submitted for consideration are Recommended by the Lexology Index 2025.
