For the fifth consecutive year, Stewarts features in The Times Best Law Firms, an annual report on the best lawyers for business, public and private client law in the UK. Stewarts is once again acknowledged as a top three firm in England and Wales for personal injury and clinical negligence, and is also listed for family and commercial dispute resolution.

The listings are based on a survey of solicitors and barristers in England and Wales by Statista and decided solely on the feedback of lawyers. Those with the most votes from more than 4,400 respondents were included in The Times Best Law Firms 2023. Only 250 of the 9,700 firms in England and Wales made the cut.

Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence

Stewarts once again achieves a prestigious ‘top three firms’ ranking for our Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence work. The top three are determined by the number of recommendations received by the lawyer respondents.

The work of our International Injury and Aviation teams is also highlighted. “The firm has represented the American Formula Two driver Juan Manuel Correa, who sustained life-changing injuries in a crash at the Belgian Grand Prix in 2019”, The Times notes in its biography of the firm. “It has also acted for the families of victims killed in the Shoreham Airshow disaster in 2015 in a civil claim and through the inquest process.”

Family Law

Our Divorce and Family team is again recognised in the list of the best firms for family law. The Times notes that Stewarts acts for individuals in high-value and complex disputes, many with an international element.

The department has received numerous industry accolades this year including the Family Law Team of the Year award at the Chambers High Net Worth Awards 2022. Recent notable cases include IR v OR and WC v HC (Financial Remedies Agreement), both of which involved complex financial proceedings and nuptial agreements.

Commercial Dispute Resolution

The Times acknowledges that our commercial dispute resolution offering has worked with clients including “household name enterprises such as Asda, British Gas and Marks & Spencer”, and Stewarts maintains its presence on the list of best firms this year.

Our Commercial Litigation team is highlighted for its work “with the liquidators of Stanford International Bank in disputes related to the disgraced financial institution’s Ponzi scheme.” This case was previously listed as one of The Lawyer’s Top 20 cases of 2021.
