Recent cases in which Lee has advised include:
- Defending major operators in the waste management industry from claims exceeding £30m for overpaid landfill tax
- Acting for various groups of investors in claims seeking over £100m in redress in relation to failed investments said to have had significant tax benefits
- Acting for individuals to resolve complex tax disputes/issues with HMRC
Lee advises clients across various industries/sectors and in relation to the full range of taxes.
He has advised and had responsibility for high-value and complex tax disputes/issues before the Tax Tribunals, High Court, Court of Appeal, Supreme and European Courts.
In addition, Lee has significant experience of claims for Judicial Review having acted and advised on numerous such claims during his time as a senior Government lawyer with HMRC Solicitor’s Office, which covered the full range of government decision making, including challenges to the introduction of new legislation and consideration of EU law and Human Rights.
Lee’s experience as a senior Government lawyer defending judicial review cases is supported and mirrored by David Pickstone’s experience in public law. In fact, Lee and David met on opposing sides of litigation and their combined experience brings significant benefits to clients considering judicial review challenges.
Lee was called to the Bar (Lincoln’s Inn) in 2005. From 2006 to 2015 he worked for HM Revenue and Customs Solicitor’s Office as a Senior Lawyer and Manager. Lee joined Stewarts in September 2015.
