Stewarts has accomplished its best ever results in the Chambers UK 2022 guide with 16 department and 54 individual rankings.

Our Divorce and Family department retains its top ranking, with 10 individuals ranked including two Star Individuals and two in Band 1. Chambers notes that the team “maintains a deep bench and a strong reputation in high-profile divorce litigation and collaborative proceedings”. Sources said “Stewarts is geared up to handle complex litigation but also gives pragmatic advice on how disputes should be resolved at an early stage. They have the knowledge and expertise to master the complex commercial realities which impact on business structures in family matters.” The Leeds team was summarised as “like a well-oiled machine, everything just works. You feel absolutely sure they will turn over every stone.”

Our Personal Injury teams maintain their Band 1 rankings in both London and Leeds, with a record 13 individuals ranked across the two offices. The London team “maintains an excellent reputation as a go-to for claimants in complex catastrophic injury claims”, with a source saying that “the client care is excellent and they prepare the work very thoroughly – outstanding”. Testimonials for Leeds suggested the team “are incredibly good at what they do and put the injured client at the heart of all they do”.

Our Clinical Negligence department in Leeds is top ranked once again, and described as “[offering] a genuinely top-notch quality service for very demanding and high-value cases”. The team in London “are very efficient, organised and their case handling is perfect”. Another source said Stewarts is “an absolutely top firm and a real pleasure to work with”.

Our Aviation team also retains Band 1 status, and is acknowledged for its work representing the surviving passenger and families of deceased victims of a Papillon Airways helicopter crash in Arizona. Interviewees described the firm as “leaders in the field, without question… they are committed and demonstrate a great knowledge of the possibilities open to their client.”

Our UK-wide top ranked International Injury department “leave no stone unturned and are prepared to commit real resources to cases”. Chambers notes the team is “routinely sought out for its substantial experience handling cases involving issues of international law”.

Our Commercial Litigation team climbed the rankings in both the London Litigation and Commercial and Corporate Litigation categories to Band 2 this year. “The team is excellent and very well versed in litigation,” one source said. “The lawyers are incredibly down to earth and communicate extremely well – they are good to work with but also very technically proficient and well attuned to what is involved in supporting their clients during litigation.”

In Leeds, our Litigation team maintained top-ranked status. “They are an amazing team to work with,” an interviewee said. Chambers highlights the firm’s “well-established reputation in cartel claims and strong track record in class action cases in relation to financial services disputes.”

Sources described the firm’s Competition Litigation team as having made “a key contribution to developing the competition damages claims market in the UK. They are always tightly focused on what the particular client wants to achieve.”

Our Fraud department is “an amazing team to work with”, and sources praised the team’s “fantastic expertise”.

Our International Arbitration team is also recognised again, with three individuals now ranked. “These are very forensic, focused people and they have a very good knowledge”, according to an interviewee. “Their knowledge of international arbitration is impressive, and their ability to produce high-quality work under tight deadlines is a real strength”, another said.

Our Tax Litigation and Investigations department has been ranked for the second consecutive year. “They are an incredibly knowledgeable and pleasant team to work with,” one source said. “They have a clear grasp of the key tactical plays in dispute resolution and a solid technical knowledge base.”
