Stewarts has earned record-breaking results in the latest release of The Legal 500 UK solicitors’ guide, published this week. 89 lawyers were mentioned across 18 different sections, with 43 lawyers ranked.

The firm’s Divorce and Family teams in both London and Leeds retained their top rankings in the new edition. The Legal 500 says the group “has built up a wealth of experience in complex, high-value and often international work”. Testimonials described Stewarts as “the best divorce firm in England by a country mile. There are so many stand out individuals in this team.”

Our injury groups also maintained their top tier rankings for Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence (for London and Leeds), International Injury and Aviation. 16 lawyers were ranked in these categories.

The Personal Injury team is acclaimed for its “ongoing commitment to acting solely for clients who have sustained the most catastrophic injuries”. Sources said “the team are excellent litigators. They achieve top results for their clients and take them on the litigation journey with a human touch.”

Top-ranked together in the ‘Travel’ category, the International Injury and Aviation teams “dominate the field of travel and personal injury law” according to The Legal 500. “This well-resourced and experienced team is right at the head of its market,” testimonials said.

Stewarts’ Clinical Negligence groups in London and Leeds feature “dynamic, polished litigators who leave nothing undone in the pursuit of the best outcome”. A source described the team as “brilliant at client care and litigation… in the most challenging of cases”. The directory also acknowledged the group’s growing strength with recent partner promotions.

Moving up a tier from the 2021 rankings, the Trust and Probate Litigation team is referred to as “a growing powerhouse of expertise punching well above its weight”. The Legal 500 notes that the group “is currently involved in some of the largest (in terms of value) and most complex matters in global trust litigation”.

Our Leeds Commercial Litigation department has also retained a top ranking, and is summarised as “technically excellent, commercial and responsive at all times. The team has unparalleled energy and cohesion.”

The London Commercial Litigation group is ranked in both the Commercial and Banking Litigation sections of the guide. A client described Stewarts as “one of, if not the, ‘go to’ firm for litigation against major banks and other financial institutions”. Another source suggested the team is “uniformly brilliant for complex and high stakes litigation”.

The Fraud team “stands out” in the market “for their rapid grasp of difficult issues even in highly complex cases”. One testimonial says they are “a first rate team who can deliver a top quality product to rival any firm”.

“The Stewarts Competition team has been a trailblazer for claimant work that is creative but deeply thought-through and strategic,” according to a source. The group’s work on interchange fee litigation was praised once again. The Legal 500 says Stewarts has built “an excellent reputation for advising on complex and innovative disputes”.

Our Tax Litigation and Investigations department is described by a source as combining “strong technical knowledge with disputes experience.” The directory commends Stewarts as “technically excellent and innovative”.

The Tax team also picks up a new ranking this year in the Professional Negligence category. One interviewee said this: “The team has an impressive and deserved reputation for dealing with commercial professional negligence matters. It has great strength in depth with talented individuals at all levels of seniority.”

The Employment team’s “significant expertise in partnership and LLP disputes” and experience acting for “individuals and teams in disputes with employers in sectors including the banking industry” are both noted. One source said the firm has “impressive devotion to clients and great flexibility whilst retaining objectivity and judgment”.

Our Financial Crime department is ranked for its work for both individuals and corporates, and acclaimed as “a progressive and forward-thinking team”. A source said: “The team at Stewarts have quickly established themselves and their reputation in order to compete with longstanding firms in this area.”

Stewarts’ International Arbitration practice is ranked once again, and highlighted for “notable strength in matters involving Africa, where the practice’s expertise includes disputes in the energy, oil and gas, power, shipping and telecoms sectors”. Interviewees felt the team “deserves a stellar reputation in the market”.
