Inspiring inclusion on International Women’s Day 2024
Our Gender Parenting and Carers Focus Group organised a fundraiser for Women’s Aid, who provide much-needed frontline domestic abuse services that help thousands of survivors to leave and recover from domestic abuse every year. We welcomed feminist comedian Jessica Fostekew, as part of the event.
In 2023, we had the pleasure of welcoming Dr Ateh Jewel to Stewarts’ London office to mark International Women’s Day.
Teaming up with education and social mobility charity Future Frontiers
Stewarts teamed up with Future Frontiers, an education and social mobility charity, for the fourth time in 2024. A group of year 10 students from local schools visited our offices in January and February.
Future Frontiers delivers a two-year programme of career coaching for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. Our lawyers and staff delivered coaching sessions to upskill students and connect them with role models in a sector they were interested in.
In 2023, partner Laura Jenkins explained our partnership with Future Frontiers and why the programme is so crucial.
Celebrating Black History Month 2024
Black History Month, celebrated each year from 1 to 31 October, is a month to cherish and commemorate the remarkable impact of Black Afro-Caribbean people on British history and current society. Our Ethnicity, Religion and Culture focus group’s events celebrated ethnic, religious and cultural diversity.
Stewarts held a quiz across our London and Leeds offices, and a book club to recognise this year’s Black History Month theme of ‘Reclaiming Narratives’. The selected book was Open Water by Caleb Azumah Nelson, recipient of multiple prestigious awards since its publication including winning the 2022 Betty Trask Award and Somerset Maugham Award.
Commemorating Holocaust Memorial Day 2024
Stewarts has continued its tradition of hosting a webinar for lawyers and staff in conjunction with the Holocaust Educational Trust, to mark Holocaust Memorial Day 2024. We were grateful to hear from Tracy Moses, whose father Harry Spiro is a Holocaust survivor. Tracy spoke about her father’s experiences and how she works with the Trust to continue awareness of where hatred can lead, to prevent history repeating.
South Asian Heritage Month runs from 18 July to 17 August, celebrating the rich and diverse cultures, histories and contributions of people with South Asian heritage. Stewarts has celebrated the multifaceted tapestry of South Asia through a number of events in July and August to highlight the importance of understanding and appreciating the cultural, linguistic, religious, and artistic diversity within the South Asian community, whilst celebrating their present impact on the rest of the world.
