Three partners from our Divorce and Family department and two members of our Tax Litigation and Resolution department are listed as specialist advisers in the latest edition of  Tatler Address Book, written for HNW individuals.

Stephen Foster, Emma Hatley, Debbie Chism, David Pickstone and Lisa Vanderheide are included in the 2023 publication, the first to go into print as exclusively alongside the February edition of Tatler magazine. Our team’s profiles are available to view in full here.

“From the most influential private client advisors, restaurants, wedding suppliers, wellness practitioners and country-pursuit purveyors to the finest educational establishments… these are the only contacts you will need on speed dial for the ultimate access to our world,” Tatler editor Richard Dennen says.

Divorce and Family Team

Head of Department Stephen Foster is praised in The Times “for leading Stewarts’ phalanx of family law lawyers to the top of the pack” and as an “intelligent and superbly talented litigator,” Tatler notes. “Stephen’s clients mainly consist of figures from the City and entrepreneurs and many of his cases have an international dimension including Europe, the US and the Middle East.”

The Address Book says Emma Hatley is “admired for her sound judgment, technical expertise and engaging personality. Through efficiency and meticulous preparation, she delivers positive outcomes for clients with sensitivity and commercial nous, whether through a negotiated settlement or contested litigation.”

“2022 has been another successful year for Debbie Chism, confirming her place in the divorce world’s elite as an ‘absolute star performer’,” Tatler says. “Following her ground-breaking victory in the Court of Appeal (XW v XH) which was hailed as a critical win for gender equality in divorce, effectively shutting the door on ‘special contribution’ arguments for financially stronger spouses, Debbie has achieved further success in court: in IR v OR, Debbie’s client was awarded over £70m (exceeding the husband’s offer by over £20m).”

Tax Litigation and Resolution Team

Tatler notes that Head of Department David Pickstone “specialises in complex tax disputes with HMRC and commercial parties before the Tax Tribunals, UK and European Courts. He has recently acted for a group of individuals in a claim regarding film investment schemes… who invested money into a partnership they believed were legitimately funding video games and films to be made, but were later branded as tax avoidance schemes by HMRC.”

Tax Director Lisa Vanderheide is also listed. “Lisa’s approach to Tax Resolution work is a ‘collaborative’ one as HMRC relationships are considered key in resolving difficult enquiries,” the Address Book says. “This approach, together with a steely determination to get the very best results for their clients, means that Lisa has built an excellent reputation in the tax dispute arena.”
