In the second episode of our two-part miniseries to mark Stroke Awareness Month in May, Clinical Negligence partner Alison Goldney spoke to consultant stroke and neurorehabilitation physician Liz Iveson.

This session covers:

  • The intensity and timing of stroke rehabilitation
  • Symptom management for patients
  • Advances in robotic devices used for stroke rehab
  • How to fund a private rehab placement

 

STEPS delivers intensive and ongoing rehabilitation for people recovering from brain injury, spinal cord injury, strokes and complex trauma injuries. They provide residential rehabilitation for stroke patients to help them relearn skills and return home more mobile and independent. Strokes can affect people at any age, and STEPS is especially known for its provision of stroke rehabilitation to young survivors.

Speaker bio

Dr Liz Iveson is an experienced consultant stroke and neurorehabilitation physician with a  background of elderly and general medicine. She has a particular interest in the longer term management of complex patients with multiple needs displaying symptoms such as pain, spasticity, fatigue, cognitive and mood disorders as well as seeing polypharmacy delivered in a holistic, pragmatic and multi-disciplinary team led way.

Having worked within the NHS for over 25 years, Dr Iveson then started her own business, Lives on Medical Consultancy and Education Ltd. She enjoys working with clients, their families and MDT’s in the Community and at STEPS Rehabilitation as well as providing a spasticity service from the Nuffield York.
