We have developed The Legal Service to support patients and their families at a time when independent legal support is most needed but often hard to find.

Over the last twenty years we have provided The Legal Service to patients at a number of NHS Trusts, including major trauma and rehabilitation hospitals. We have now extended that service to reach patients being treated in any UK trauma or rehabilitation centre.

We will provide you with advice without obligation, for however long it takes to resolve the issue. Our support is available regardless of the circumstances of your accident and regardless of whether you have a personal injury claim.

We have expertise in securing funding for rehabilitation both through the compensation claims process and through the NHS. We also have arrangements with private rehabilitation centres to provide instant access to rehabilitation in appropriate cases.

The Legal Service is provided by Stewarts’ pro bono team as part of the Firm’s commitment to help people with serious injury. The service offers free advice to patients when they need it most.

Since its inception, The Legal Service has undertaken the following work to change people’s lives on a completely free-of-charge basis:

• assisted over 6,200 people affected by serious injury and illness
• provided more than 60,000 hours of free pro bono support with non-compensation legal issues.
• executed more than 652 powers of attorney
• made nearly 211 applications to the Court of Protection
• helped patients to get over £1.2m of their debt written off
• recovered £12.1m under no-fault insurance policies
• helped more than 3,764 people with housing issues
• assisted with over 100 welfare benefits mandatory reconsiderations and appeals
