The latest edition of the Chambers Global guide to leading lawyers and firms around the world has six individuals ranked, more than in any previous year. Three of our departments are also recognised in the guide.

Sherina Petit, Lucy Ward and Aaron Le Marquer are ranked by Chambers Global as Stewarts lawyers for the first time this year, joining Kate Pollock, David Pickstone and Daniel Wilmot. Chambers recognises our Commercial Litigation, Competition and International Arbitration teams as standout practices in their fields.

International Arbitration: Commercial Arbitration

Head of International Arbitration and Head of India Practice Sherina Petit is ranked both for international arbitration work in the UK section, and in the India section for dispute resolution with UK expertise based abroad. The listing says: “Sherina stands out for her hands-on approach to the case, her tactical sense and her user-friendly manner, which combine to make her a great team leader.”

Daniel Wilmot is also ranked in the UK section, and is “particularly noted for his expertise in disputes arising in Africa”. Interviewees reported to Chambers that “his advice is super commercial and very practical. He is a savvy commercial lawyer who focuses on important points for clients.”

The team as a whole also receives a commercial arbitration ranking. “Each member of the Stewarts team provides an essential part of the required expertise to deliver great results,” Chambers says. “They have the ability to handle complex substantive and procedural issues in sophisticated commercial arbitrations.” Our team is also highly regard in Chambers UK, The Legal 500 and Who’s Who Arbitration.

Competition

Head of Competition Kate Pollock is once again listed in Band 1 of the individual UK rankings. “She is a brilliant lawyer who is very commercial, is great to work with and has a very good relationship with the other side,” sources say. “She is a steely negotiator when she needs to be and an incredibly good leader.”

The team’s ranking says they are “able to handle high-value proceedings on behalf of domestic and multinational clients.” Chambers highlights Stewarts’ work acting in a damages claim following the European Commission’s investigation into a possible cartel among truck manufacturers.

Commercial and Corporate Litigation

Co-Head of Commercial Litigation Lucy Ward is ranked as an Up and Coming partner in Chambers Global for the first time in 2024. Sources describe her as “a class act – she’s very sensible, thoughtful and we’re very happy to work with her.” Chambers especially praises Lucy’s “expertise in advising on multiparty proceedings.”

Our Commercial Litigation team is ranked in Band 2 for the third consecutive year. The 2024 guide says Stewarts is adept at “taking the lead on behalf of claimants in large-scale shareholder actions, while also assisting clients with breach of contract claims and other commercial disputes.”

Among other accolades, The Times Best Law Firms lists Stewarts as a top three firm in England and Wales for commercial disputes resolution.

Tax: Contentious

Head of Tax Litigation and Resolution David Pickstone rises to Band 2 in the new edition. “He is an absolutely super lawyer who is highly commercial, sensible and has proper understanding of the space,” according to the guide’s interviewees. “He has deep experience handling cases for corporate clients and he regularly works on VAT disputes and other commercial litigation.”

David is also ranked in the latest edition of Chambers High Net Worth.

Insurance: Mainly Policyholders

Head of Policyholder Disputes Aaron Le Marquer “is noted for his ability to represent a broad range of clients in contentious coverage matters.” Feedback says “Aaron Le Marquer is consistently impressive. He clearly understands the particularities, sensitivities and commercial pressures. His advice is tailored to the individual recipients and he ensures that everyone remains actively engaged. Aaron is excellent.”

Aaron has been named The Times’ Lawyer of the Week for his work on the ExCel At the Premises test case.
